SPS Italia 2024: Innovation as the driver of sustainable change

22 gennaio 2024

Milan, 16 January 2024. The run-up to the trade fair. Main themes: AI, green manufacturing and new skills.

Twelfth edition of SPS Italia. The trade fair dedicated to smart production solutions, automation, digital and sustainable manufacturing, takes place this year in Parma from 28 to 30 May. A presentation of the fair to the press on 16 January in Milan included details of the many initiatives that will be of great interest to anyone who wants to keep up with key developments in the world of industry and manufacturing.

SPS Italia On Tour: visits to production districts

In just a few weeks, SPS Italia On Tour gets under way. The pre-fair tour takes the form of local meetings in various production districts organized around the theme of the digital transformation. The first production district to be visited is Ancona (7 February, Teatro delle Muse). It will be followed by Padua (27 March, Competence Center Smact) and Turin (17 April, Competence Center CIM4.0). The tour ends, as always, with the fair itself, a showcase of the latest and best technologies for industry and manufacturing.

28-30 May, in the heart of SPS Italia

In late May, six pavilions at Fiere di Parma (the trade fair complex of Parma) will be dedicated to displaying cutting-edge solutions for the manufacturing sector. District 4.0 is the name given to the route that leads visitors through the forest of new technologies, taking in working demonstrations of robotics and mechatronics, industrial IT & AI, and additive manufacturing along the way. The District 4.0 route begins at the entrance to the pavilion in the Sustainable Innovation section, which is dedicated to the green transition and energy efficiency. The adjacent area is given over to industrial 3D printing, a field with similarly great potential for reducing waste and protecting the planet.
The Industry, Tech and Next arenas at the heart of the fair focus on the main trends in the world of industry and manufacture, such as, to name but a few, artificial intelligence, Industry 5.0 and sustainability. Insights into the world of additive manufacturing will be available at the Discover 3D Printing seminar, which is structured according to the format created by the Aachen Center for Additive Manufacturing (ACAM) and Formnext.

Position Paper, volume II

SPS Italia 2024 will also see the publication of the second edition of the Position Paper. Produced by the SPS Italia Scientific Committee, whose members are drawn from more
than 150 Italian manufacturing companies, the Paper sets out useful guidelines for staying up to speed with the technological and digital evolution. The second edition completes and expands on the previous one with new insights. The presentation of the Paper will coincide with the presentation of the results of a survey on AI.

Education for the professionals of the future

Included on the District 4.0 route, the new “Education Arena” in Pavilion 8 considers the needs of the new generation of workers entering digitalized factories in the coming years. This focus on education is consistent with SPS Italia's commitment to bridging the gap that separates school education from industrial training. The “Next Arena” will host meetings and workshops organized by exhibitors and their associates for students from universities and technical institutes. Lezioni in fiera, ‘Lessons at the fair,’ is the name of an initiative to address the problem of mismatched skills in industry. The meetings held during the SPS Italia On Tour will also be made available for live streaming to schools.

New manufacturing ideas proposed by start-ups

Start-ups and innovative SMEs, whose exhibition area is in Pavilion 7, are the focus of the SPS Italia Up Challenge, a new competition whose prize is a stand at the fair for each of the five companies with the most interesting manufacturing projects in the pipeline.
Furthermore, Next Arena will host Access2Tech South, the initiative developed by EIT Manufacturing with the support of SPS Italia to establish links between the main companies at the fair and the most successfully innovative European manufacturing start-ups.

She SPS Italia

She SPS Italia project considers the gender gap problem, which remains a major issue in the world of industry. The project makes known stories of female mentorship and highlights the opportunities available for emerging professional women. SPS Italia has set up an award and created synergies with associations, university academics and other stakeholder communities with the intention of promoting change. The first networking event of She SPS Italia was held on January 16th in Milan, ahead of the presentation to the press of the coming trade fair.

"NoPlasticIntheOcean"

SPS Italia has joined forces with the One Ocean Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to expediting solutions to marine challenges and fostering a sustainable blue economy. The Fair actively supports the "NoPlasticIntheOcean" project to combat marine pollution resulting from plastic and microplastics in developing countries. The commitment is to collect five tons of plastic in 2024. In another joint project with the One Ocean Foundation, SPS Italia is preparing a survey to gather valuable data and raise the awareness of the automation and digital industry of the circular economy and importance of protecting marine ecosystems.
